Free Ductwork Tables for Sizing and Construction of HVAC Air Ducts. The table below can be used to compare equivalent diameters for rectangular and round circular ducts , ductwork sizing , friction loss, sheet . SMACNA (Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning Contractors National Association) is the industry leader in setting the standards for the thickness (gauge), reinforcement, joints and seams, along with various other .Spiral Manufacturing Co., Inc. single-wall, rectangular duct fittings are factory fabricated to furnish you with a high-quality line of products in a broad range of standard sizes. To minimize field assembly costs, rectangular duct is supplied . Generally, the thickness of HVAC ducts is standardized into 0.5 mm, 0.6 mm, 0.8 mm, 1.0 mm and 1.2 mm. The corresponding duct gauges are 26, 24, 22, 20 and 18. The most common duct thickness is 22 gauge or 0.8 mm.
Sheet metal gauge is a fundamental measurement in metalworking that denotes the thickness of sheet metal. Originating from the Browne & Sharpe system in North America, gauge is a standardized unit used to specify the .
I am having new galvanized steel ductwork installed in my attic, replacing the old flex duct that was there. What is the correct gauge sheet metal that should be used? The contractor says he will use 26 gauge for supply and return trunks, and 30 gauge for branch runs? Is this the standard gauges for these?
Hi all, I am having new galvanized steel ductwork installed in my attic, replacing the old flex duct that was there. What is the correct gauge sheet metal that should be used? The contractor says he will use 26 gauge for supply and return trunks, and 30 gauge for branch runs? Is this the standard gauges for these? Is this even better than standard? as far as using fab duct from supply houses, it's the only way to go. it's not cost effective to make standard size duct work. with all the available fittings and reducing products i really don't see the benefit of making basic sized trunk lines, now as far as plenums and such, having a small shear/pittsburgh machine,4 ft. break is the way to go, or a really large shop, . HVAC colleagues, I'm looking for the chart/table that states the sheetmetal ductwork minimum gage based on the duct width. Got Smacna, NFPA and Trane manuals for duct fabrication and it isn't within the charts and tables in these manuals. Where can I find it? Thanks in advance. JC Doing some work in my basement and found this metal lathe mixed with some kind of plaster above the ductwork. Anyone seen this before and what’s it for? House is old, and I know there was asbestos present before when they did some remodeling. 877129877131877133
Iron is not steel. Galvanized sheet metal for air ducting is cold rolled steel sheet with a coating of zinc. For sheet metal, so far as I know, it is electroplated - not dip coated. It is called 'galvanized' because the zinc and steel is preserved by sacrificing the zinc - . Metal, metal, metal. Galvanized steel is used.you don't need stainless. Stainless steel is at least 5 to 6 times more expensive, on top of an already higher sheet metal cost than what it was two years ago. Sheet metal costs more in material and labor but the bottom line is it isn't that expensive. Gees. Those contractors have their boys trained on installing duct board and have it down. They may not have any one with much experience in doing sheet metal I guess. Keep calling till you find a contractor who has the guys to do it. Is duct board or sheet metal the way to go? When I worked in Texas everywhere I worked used duct board, silver tape, flex duct, and pookie. Now I am in Kansas and it is all hard duct, S Lock and sheet metal. Sheet metal looks professional, takes longer and results in more leakage but duct board is quick, doesn't leak and doesn't sweat.
Wrapping sheet metal can save both the customer and company money. Its easier to move air through unlined sheet metal then to move it against the higher friction of a liner ( liners increase the size of the duct, increasing cost ). Many companies don't know the .
